What is the liar game?
Everyone gets the same secret word except one player: the liar. Take turns describing the word in one line, then vote for whoever sounds off. The liar plays along as if they know it, and even when caught, they win by guessing the word.
3 to 10 players, no sign-up, each on their own phone. One person makes a room and sends the 6-digit room code or the invite link, and everyone joins the same room. You don’t need to be in the same place: it all happens in the chat.
How a round goes
- Check your role Hold your mask to see your role and the word; let go and it hides again. The liar doesn’t get the word.
- Describe On your turn, describe the word in one line of up to 40 characters. Writing the word itself is blocked. The host picks the turn time from 25·40·60 seconds.
- Discuss Pick apart the suspicious lines in the chat. If most players want more time, it can be extended by 30 seconds, up to 2 times.
- Vote Pick who you think the liar is and lock it in. If there’s a tie, the tied players each say a few words in their defense, then there’s a runoff vote.
- Verdict The named player gets a last word, then everyone else picks Liar, Not liar or Not sure. If Liar beats Not liar, the accusation stands. If they’re let go, there’s one more discussion and vote; if they’re let go again, the liar gets away.
- Last chance If the caught player is the liar, they pick the word from a list. Guess right and the liar wins after all. If the caught player was a citizen, the liar wins.
Two modes
- Classic (default)
- The liar only knows the topic. Nobody can write that topic’s words in the chat. A caught liar picks the word from 8 options.
- Board
- Everyone sees the same 16 words. Only the citizens know which one is the answer, and no word on the board can be written in the chat. A caught liar picks from all 16.

Questions
- Do I need to sign up?
- No. Pick a name and you can make or join a room right away.
- How many players?
- 3 to 10 players in one room.
- Do we have to be in the same place?
- No. Everyone joins the same room on their own phone or computer and plays through the chat. Playing side by side works too.
- What if I write the word in the chat?
- During a round you’ll see “You can’t use that word” and the message isn’t sent. Simple plurals count too: apples is blocked when the word is apple.
- What if I lose my connection?
- Come back in the same browser on the same phone and you’re back in your seat. If you stay away, you leave the room after 2 minutes during a game, or 1 minute in the lobby.
- Can I play on a computer?
- Yes. On a wide screen everyone sits around a table.
